Privacy Policy
The short version
Ballast collects nothing. There is no account, no login, no server, and no analytics. Everything you enter stays in Ballast's own storage on your iPhone. No data about you is transmitted to us or to anyone else, because there is nowhere for it to go.
What Ballast stores on your device
- Your workouts: exercises, weights, sets, reps, and dates.
- Your profile: age, biological sex, training experience, available equipment, preferred training days, goal weight, and daily protein target.
- Your protein log and any weigh-ins you type by hand.
This is held in a file inside Ballast's app container. Deleting the app deletes it. If your iPhone is backed up to iCloud or a computer, that backup is made and encrypted by Apple under your own settings and is not accessible to us.
Apple Health
With your permission, Ballast reads and writes the following Apple Health data:
- Read: body mass (weight). Used to chart your trend and to calculate your daily protein target from your current weight.
- Read: exercise minutes. Used to show how much you have moved this week against the 150-minute adult guideline. Nothing is logged or changed.
- Read: date of birth and biological sex. Used once, during setup, to pre-fill your profile so the program is scaled correctly. You can decline and type them in.
- Write: workouts. Each finished session is saved as a traditional strength training workout, with an estimate of the active energy it burned, so it counts toward your Activity rings.
Health data is read on your device and used on your device. It is never transmitted off your iPhone by Ballast, never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with any third party. It is not used for any purpose other than the features described above. Ballast does not store Health data in iCloud.
You can grant or revoke any of these permissions at any time in the Health app, under your profile picture, then Apps & Services, then Ballast. Revoking them does not delete anything you have already logged in Ballast.
Purchases
Ballast Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the payment and tells your device whether a valid purchase exists. We never see your name, your payment details, or your Apple Account. We receive only the anonymous, aggregated sales reporting that Apple provides to every developer.
Analytics, tracking, and advertising
There are none. Ballast contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising identifier, and no third-party tracking of any kind. Ballast does not track you across apps or websites. The app makes no network requests except to Apple's own App Store services for purchases.
If you choose to open the support, privacy, or review links inside the app, those open in your browser and are governed by the privacy policy of whoever you land on.
Children
Ballast is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. Since the app collects nothing at all, there is nothing held about any user of any age.
Your rights
Rights of access, correction, deletion, and portability under laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA apply to data a company holds about you. We hold none. In practice:
- Access and portability: Settings, then Export all data, gives you the complete contents as a readable file. This is free and is not part of any paid plan. Settings, then Restore from a backup, reads that same file back on any iPhone.
- Correction: everything in the app is editable, including past sessions.
- Deletion: deleting the app removes everything. There is no copy elsewhere.
We do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined under the CCPA, because we do not receive any.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. If a future version of Ballast were ever to collect anything, that change would be described here and in the App Store privacy label before it shipped.
